Domingo Replacing Alvarez in "Adriana Lecouvreur"

Crisis resolved. TBA deleted. Domingo is a superhero.
Not only does Placido Domigo get a gala in his honor, but the Met is also "letting him" (not exactly) jump into the role of Maurizio after not singing it there for 25 years! It was the role he debuted at the Met in (with Tebaldi) and he only performed it at the Met once more in 1983.
Marcelo Alvarez, as we all know, has to replace Salvatore Licitra in Trovatore and can not perform in any of the six performances of Adriana.
Well.... Let's just say Adriana ticket holders aren't complaining. I'm sure Maria Guleghina (the leading lady) isn't either.

Domingo! To the Rescue!

The Inevitable- Cancellations

Cancellation numero uno:

Anna Netrebko underestimated the time she would need with her new baby before returning to the stage. As a result, she has cancelled her scheduled performances of Mimi at the Met. Maija Kovalevska is going to replace the Trebster in those performances. However, La Trebs will still be singing her scheduled Lucia's at the Met.

Cancellation numero deux/trois:

Despite the amazing advertisements and super cool pictures, Salvatore Licitra will not be singing Manrico in the Met's brand new Trovatore. Marcelo Alvarez will be this season's Manrico (the run starts February 16th). This means that Alvarez will have to cancel Adriana Lecouvreur, but never fear! TBA is here! Old reliable "to be announced" has replaced Marcelo Alvarez as Maurizio until further notice.

Heppner Talks About His Health

Poor Ben Heppner. Getting misdiagnosed by TWO New York doctors? It's rough stuff. I just hope he gets better.

In the meantime, I think they should let Gary Lehman sing the HD transmission, but Robert Dean Smith is scheduled. I would have thought Gary Lehman deserved it. After all that...

Ugh, Wagner Makes Me Sick...

Well, not me, but it seems to make every one else sick. First, Ben Heppner catches a virus and can't sing Tristan. Then, the audience gets sick of the cover Tristan and he gets booed. Finally, Deborah Voigt falls ill during her performance of Isolde. In fact, it was right in the middle of the love duet. Yikes.
According to the AP Voigt had not been feeling well at the beginning of the day, but didn't want to "disturb" the management and she wanted "to be very supportive of Mr. Lehman," the cover for Tristan. (Wait, I'm confused as to where Mr. MacMaster went...) So, during the love duet Ms. Voigt suddenly ran off the stage, leaving her Tristan confused and shocked. Mr. Levine kept the orchestra going, but the curtain soon closed. After a few minutes an announcement was made that Deborah Voigt was ill. The cover Janice Baird came to a heroic rescue! Both singers received enthusiastic applause at the end of the act.

I just hope everyone gets well soon. It's terrible to have both lead singers sick at once.

JDF Swallows Fish Bone, World in Chaos

'Tis true. Juan Diego is cancelling ALL performances of the LOC "Barbiere" because of a throat infection caused by his swallowing a fishbone. Doctor's say he can't sing until mid-March at the EARLIEST. Conflicts with "Fille"??? We'll see. The article says it's still scheduled, so we'll have to wait it out. John Osborn is scheduled to replace JDF.

ATTENTION WORLD: WE HAVE FOUND NEMO. JUAN DIEGO FLOREZ SWALLOWED HIM.

Happy Swimming!!=) Oh, I mean- Happy Listening!!! =)
